Krista Laing for DDSB Trustee - Oshawa
Born and raised in Oshawa, I know how important strong public services are to the families and communities that call our city home. As a young municipal worker and a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s labour certificate relations program, I’ve seen firsthand how much our communities depend on dedicated public-sector workers and the services they provide. I also bring a strong background in facility management, with extensive training in building systems, facility operations, and infrastructure management. That experience has given me a practical understanding of what it takes to maintain public buildings and community spaces, identify aging or failing infrastructure, and plan for the investments needed to keep facilities safe, accessible, efficient, and sustainable. I understand that investing in infrastructure before it fails is not just good asset management—it is essential to delivering reliable public services and building strong communities for the future.
Over the years, I’ve built strong connections across Oshawa through my work, my involvement in the community, and my passion for local sports. Those connections have reinforced something I believe strongly: the best decisions are made when we listen to the people we serve.
As a school board trustee, I’ll be a strong advocate for students, parents, and educators. I believe we need to fight for the funding our schools deserve, including smaller class sizes and the resources students need to succeed. I also believe parents deserve to be heard and have a meaningful voice in the decisions affecting their children.
Oshawa is growing, and our schools need to grow with it. We need better long-term planning and to make sure new schools are built where and when our communities need them.
I’m running because I believe in public education, I believe in Oshawa, and I believe our students and families deserve a strong voice at the school board.
Safe, Fully Funded Public Schools
I’m running for School Board Trustee because every student deserves a safe, welcoming and fully funded public school where they have the support they need to succeed.
That means advocating for smaller class sizes, properly staffed classrooms, strong special education supports, and the resources students and educators need every day. It also means listening to parents, caregivers, students and the frontline education workers who know our schools best.
Our school buildings matter too. With aging infrastructure and growing communities, we need to invest in preventative maintenance, accessibility, modern building systems and long-term capital renewal — before small problems become expensive ones. And we need to support the skilled workers who keep our schools clean, safe and operating every day.
I believe public education works best when decisions are made with the people directly affected by them. As Trustee, I will be an accessible voice for Oshawa families, advocate for the funding our schools deserve, and stand up for a strong, publicly delivered education system.

Community Voices Matter
Decisions should be informed by the people directly affected by them. That means building genuine relationships with students and families while listening to educators and frontline education workers who see the needs, challenges and opportunities in our schools every day.
Safe & Sustainable Schools
Investing in preventative maintenance, accessibility and long-term infrastructure renewal so our schools remain safe, modern and welcoming. That also means supporting the skilled education workers who maintain our schools every day and ensuring they have the staffing, resources and tools they need to do their jobs effectively.
Strong Public Education
Protect publicly delivered education and push back against privatization and contracting out. Advocate for provincial funding that actually keeps pace with what schools need, including adequate staffing, special education supports, safe buildings and student services.
